Mirage

One of the most humbling experiences during my time in Dubai was definitely our trip to the desert. I have been on several desert safaris before in Egypt and Jordan, but honestly, it's not something you ever get used to. You never get used to being so small and surrounded by such infinite and endless beauty. Huge beauty. Your eyes stay convinced the world is pulling tricks on them. You don't even want to step on the sand for fear of leaving your unworthy mark...but in an instant, the wind blows, and the desert renews itself. Perfect again, for someone else's eyes to marvel at.

The day was filled with too much excitement to articulate properly. It started with our driver, who had these magical aqua blue eyes, drove like a maniac, prayed at the sound of every adhan, chased after us with a machete, and cursed us every time we failed to say mashAllah when complimenting his beauty. hahaaaa. The day was then marked by huge adrenaline rushes speeding through the sand dunes, watching the sun set on an ocean of sand, and finally arriving at our camp site.

Unlike the other overnight stays I've done in the Middle East, this one was very...developed. I mean, it's Dubai afterall. Buffet dinner, camel rides, henna tattooing, belly dancer (she was Russian, of course), hookah, liquor, and all the rest. Quite an organized spectacle. Thankfully the crowd of tourists all went back to their comfy hotels, and the 6 of us stayed the night. After 11pm, all we had was a flashlight, an ipod, countless hooka pipes, lit coal, a few sleeping bags, and an open bright sky. And a lot of out of control fuckery, laughter...and....Stars.

No Jacket in February.

Global Warming is real and terrifying.
Yet, I am such a sucker for these 50-60 degree winters.
I vow to recycle more to make up for it.
